DeSantis' Pre-Presidential Bid: Addresses Evangelicals at NRB Convention in Orlando

During an address to the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) conference on Monday, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis praised the Sunshine State's initiatives to reduce abortion and promote the growth of families.

DeSantis praised his state's recent adoption of a six-week abortion ban, claiming that it is "humane" to preserve a baby's life at that point in development. It is the appropriate thing to do, not harsh at all.

He went on to declare that "[w]e have provided unprecedented support in the state of Florida for mothers," pointing to a variety of healthcare changes aimed at helping mothers. We have increased post-partum healthcare coverage for low-income moms to a full year.

The governor of Florida continued by highlighting modifications to the state's sales tax policy, including the elimination of taxes on the sale of any items related to child rearing.

Everything you need to raise a child is tax-free in Florida, he said.

The Florida governor spoke before the anticipated start of the presidential campaign. DeSantis is largely expected to enter the Republican primary, despite the fact that he has not yet made a formal announcement. Polling data has regularly showed him to be the party's most formidable opponent to former President Donald Trump.

In the RealClearPolitics polling average, he is currently 36.9% behind the outgoing president but is far ahead of all other Republican candidates.
