When Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced earlier this year that he intended to compete in the 2024 Democratic primary, Instagram reactivated his personal account.

After continuously posting documented material regarding COVID-19 on the social networking site, Instagram permanently deleted Kennedy's personal account in 2021, claiming it was misinformation. In a statement at the time, the business said that it had deleted the account because it had posted "debunked assertions concerning the coronavirus or immunizations."

The Washington Post stated that while Kennedy's personal account will be restored, his organization's account won't, according to Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. His anti-vaccine group, Children's Health Defence, also had its Instagram and Facebook accounts removed last year for disseminating false information regarding COVID-19.

We have reopened access to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s Instagram account, a representative for Instagram and Facebook parent company Meta said in a statement to The Post. "As he is now an active contender for president of the United States," the spokesperson said.

Kennedy, the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, tweeted last week that his campaign for president had been unable to create an Instagram account. The site "immediately addressed" the problem, according to a spokeswoman for Meta who informed The Post that the recognition was a mistake.

"It is fundamentally undemocratic to suppress a prominent political contender. The town square of the current day is social media. If only some candidates have access to it, how can democracy work? At the moment, Kennedy tweeted.

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, replied to Kennedy's post and invited him to join a Twitter Spaces livestream event that will take place on Monday afternoon. This event comes after Musk hosted a related one with Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) last month to declare the governor's presidential campaign, a launch that was fraught with technological issues.
