Actress Emily Blunt now apologizes for saying she regrets being an American; do you believe her?

Actress Emily Blunt says she regrets telling reporters she reconsidered her American citizenship following the first GOP presidential debate.

“I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?’” the The UK-born Sicario actress quipped to The Hollywood Reporter during a recent group interview.

“So, #EmilyBlunt – u regret becoming a citizen? Please leave MY COUNTRY – THE ONE THAT MADE U A STAR #UNGRATEFUL #ARROGANT,” read some of the tweets that soon flooded the Internet following her remarks.

On Thursday, Blunt made it known that she didn’t mean any harm.

“It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “It was just an offhand joke. I think I’ll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something.”

In fact, she’s grateful to be a citizen! “It’s really meaningful,” she added of becoming an American.

Do you believe her? What are your thoughts?
