Jessica Arrendale, 37, was fatally shot by 30-year-old Antoine Davis at their home in Atlanta during a drunken brawl in which the former Iraq War veteran allegedly took a bat Arrendale was holding in self-defense and used it against her reports FoxNews. Holding their daughter, Cobie, Arrendale took refuge in their bathroom and shut the door – but not before her husband reportedly struck her several times with the bat and hit their baby over the head with it.
Davis was eventually able to kick down the bathroom door and shoot his wife in the head before taking his own life. Somehow, right after she was shot, the mom found the strength to place Cobie in the toilet bowl so that Davis couldn’t harm her.
Police found Cobie alive in the toilet 13 hours later. She is reportedly being treated for head injuries and hypothermia.
Arrendale is survived by Cobie, as well as her 15-year-old daughter Naomi Turner, mother Theresa Ianniello and brother Daniel Ianniello. A memorial service was held for her on Sunday.
On the family’s GoFundMe page, Arrendale is described as “an amazing mother, daughter, sister and friend” who “was taken way too soon.”
She was also the “sole provider” in her household, according to the account. Even though the family’s goal was to raise $10,000, in just seven days, 685 people helped raise a total of $33,390. The page has been shared more than 3.2K times.
