With President-Elect Donald Trump preparing to take office in January, we have a chance to undo the damage done for the past 8 years under President Obama. Trump wasn’t the most conventional candidate to run on the GOP ticket, but when I hear leaders like Speaker Paul Ryan showing enthusiasm in wanting to get things done, it gives me optimism.
With that said, here are the top 5 issues I hope Trump can get done in his presidency.
1.) Nominate constitutional conservatives to the Supreme Court
This was one of the biggest issues many people were talking about. Trump will have the opportunity to nominate at least two or three new justices to the Supreme Court. Hopefully, these will also be pro-life justices that will support overturning Roe v. Wade. On a side note, I give a lot of credit to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for staying strong in preventing Obama’s nominee from getting onto the court. But there are many great candidates that could be on the high court, and I hope that Trump follows through with this.
2.) Repeal and Replace Obamacare
Although Trump did say during Sunday’s 60 minutes interview that he may actually keep a couple provisions of Obamacare, he still believes the law overall is a disaster and needs to be replaced. Repealing Obamacare is not going to be the easiest task, but with Republicans now controlling the Presidency, Senate, and House, there is at least the possibility that wasn’t previously there. With health care premiums skyrocketing for millions of Americans under the disastrous Obamacare, we can’t waste any time and need to bring back free markets into the sector as quickly as possible.
3.) Reverse Obama’s Amnesty and build the wall
President Obama and Hillary Clinton support open borders and amnesty, but now is the time to end this. President-Elect Trump needs to carry on his promise of building the wall and follow through with deportations. During the 60 minutes interview, he did say there are at least 2 or 3 million illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds that could be immediately deported, and that time will tell to decide what to do with the remaining ones with no criminal background. Hopefully, we can also finally see Kate’s Law passed and end funding for sanctuary cities.
4.) Take on the EPA and radical environmentalism
Unlike Clinton, Trump pledged he would bring back jobs for coal workers. However, this is not possible with a disastrous EPA and radical environmentalists advocating for endless regulations that are crushing the coal industry. There are also reports that he is already working on exiting the Paris treaty on climate change. Not only has Obamacare been one of the largest job destroyers, but so has the environmental movement. Their policies have wrecked economic growth, but now we can increase offshore drilling to help the coal sector and the economy as a whole.
5.) Destroy ISIS
We finally have a president who will identify our enemy as “radical Islamic terrorism.” For the past 8 years, we’ve had a president who would never utter those words due to political correctness. But it is absolutely vital that he gets the best foreign experts to advise him. On the world stage, we have been so weak under Obama with the whole world laughing at us. With Trump, we can hopefully change that by being tough on terrorism and bring back American strength.
Although Trump wasn’t my first choice for President, at least we have a chance to bring back these conservative values. On the other hand, we knew a Clinton presidency would be a guaranteed Obama third term. As President-Elect Trump has said, along with Obama and Hillary, now is the time to unite and come together. Our Founding Fathers fought very hard to find this great country, and it is up to us and our leaders to help preserve it for future generations.
