BREAKING NEWS: Shooting at Canadian Parliament

At 10:00 a.m. in Ottawa, Canada there were gunshots fired near the Parliament building. One guard in the front entrance of the War Memorial was shot and is in critical condition. The gunman, who’s carrying a rifle, stole a car and rushed to the Parliament building a block away. The armed guards rushed the officials into the basement and secured the area known as Parliament Hill. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was evacuated and is safe.

Ottawa Shooting 20141022One assailant was apparently shot and killed by Kevin Vickers, the Sergeant-at-Arms in the House of Commons.

Police are saying there are at least 3 separate shootings – one in the Parliament building, one at the War Memorial, one at Rideau Centre mall and at the Chateau Laurier Hotel nearby.

Two people were taken to the hospital but are not in life-threatening condition; one with a gunshot wound.

There is still reportedly one gunman still at large. Police are searching all vehicles leaving Ottawa heading towards Quebec.

People still do not know the motive for the shooting, but some are speculating terrorism.
