While backup San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is protesting the national anthem for publicity, Carolina Panther’s quarterback is dropping knowledge on the protesters in Charlotte.
The facts are not out yet in regards to a black man being killed by police who maintain he had a gun at the time of the shooting. Police haven’t released the crime scene videotape, but the family, the victim’s wife released her version yesterday that led to a lot of questions.
Panther’s QB Newton wants the rioters in Charlotte to look at both sides through a common sense lens and then make a judgment instead of rushing into violence using a false narrative wrapped in passion.
From CBS NY:
Newton said that while he doesn’t see things through a “black-white lens,” he does realize that people view him as a spokesman for the African-American community because of his stature in the NFL.
“I’m an African-American and I’m not happy how the justice has been dealt with over the years, and the state of oppression in our community, but we also as black people have to do right by ourselves,” Newton said. “We can’t be hypocrites.”
Newton went on to say, “From being a black person, there is a lot of black people that don’t do right by black people, so you can’t be a hypocrite and just say, ‘Oh a white man or a white police officer killed a black man.’ Now that’s still messed up and I’m not sitting up here and saying that’s OK.
“I am saying we have to have a clear eye vision on both sides and starts with everyone holding each other accountable and policing yourselves.”
I think the reason the law enforcement officials didn’t release their tape is that they wanted to investigate the incident for a clearer breakdown and finally deliver a definitive series of events that led to the shooting.

Cam’s response shows real leadership and maturity. He just scored major points in my book. Hopefully, people that look up to him will take notice and follow his lead. People can’t just react to a news story and decide to riot because it appears to show something they don’t like. You cannot have a true society when people act this way.
It’s important to know the facts about something before taking any extreme action. It’s also important to note that two wrongs do NOT make a right. Rioting, attacking innocents, and looting does the exact opposite of getting your point across- those actions demonize YOU and make people feel like you aren’t worth helping.
There are many ways to protest something in a peaceful way AND get your point across. MLK Jr. is rolling over in his grave right now seeing this America because this is NOT the way. Cam, on the other hand, totally gets it.
