Democrats Just Elected The New Speaker Of The House

Rep. John Boehner has just been elected as the next Speaker of the House by the Democrats. Conservatives had mounted a campaign to block his election, and although they did get the 29 votes necessary to block his election, absentee Democrat members of the House who did not cast votes shifted the requisite number of votes Boehner needed by a sufficient number to give him another term.

All hail the newly elected Democrat Speaker of the House.

It is entirely possible that those Democrats didn’t bother to show up because they knew Nancy Pelosi didn’t stand a chance of winning anyway, but it was certainly convenient that they all found something else to do during the opening of the 114th Congress.

I have previously written about the “nuclear option” Boehner had available as a way to keep his hold on power, and the problems that would arise if he chose to win using Democrat votes. Congratulations to the Speaker for finding a way to do just that without having the votes recorded. Never-the-less, John Boehner will go down in history as the first person elected as Speaker of the House by the opposing party.

Why would Democrats go along with a plan to elect Boehner? I’m glad you asked. John Boehner is the best friend Obama has in the GOP, and he  has done his dead-level best to make sure Barack Obama has gotten everything he wants; the last thing the Democrats wanted was for a Conservative to be elected Speaker. They knew that someone like Louie Gohmert would bring all of that to a screeching halt, and chose instead to do their part in electing John Boehner to a new term of office.

The vote has been taken, and the merger of the Democrat and Republican parties has been consummated and it looks as though Republicans were the ones on the receiving end. The question we must all now ask ourselves is, are you a Republican or a Conservative? You can no longer be both. My decision has been made.
