Does Being a Good Parent to Your Children Give Them an Unfair Advantage in Life?

According to Dr. Adam Swift, an academic scholar in the UK, reading to your children and raising them in a loving home gives them an unfair advantage over children who may not have such opportunities.

‘The evidence shows that the difference between those who get bedtime stories and those who don’t—the difference in their life chances—is bigger than the difference between those who get elite private schooling and those that don’t,’ he says.

Not only does he postulate that these kids receive “advantages,” but that parents should be aware of how they might be putting other kids at a disadvantage with their behavior.

‘I don’t think parents reading their children bedtime stories should constantly have in their minds the way that they are unfairly disadvantaging other people’s children, but I think they should have that thought occasionally,’ quips Swift.

Essentially his argument here can be summed up in a few words: Properly parenting and loving your child puts other children at a disadvantage.

I can hardly believe what I’m typing, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that that the progressives among us want to lower the world to the lowest common denominator. Nobody can be better than anyone else because then someone might feel bad and we can’t have that. No, we all have to be the exact same; nobody wins, nobody loses, we just ARE.

In a perfect world, good parents would be celebrated and held up as an example for everyone else. Children would strive to the the best that they can in school and, later, in life. However, we don’t live in a perfect world, and not everyone is going to be as good as they could and should be. All we can do is live our own lives and not worry about what other people are or aren’t doing. If you’re going to read to your kid before bed, do it. If you’re going to form a loving family unit to support your child, go for it. Don’t let the thought that there are awful parents out there prevent you from nurturing your child.
