DonaldTrump is gaining momentum. The June strategy that worked so well in defining Romney failed against Trump. He will get his convention bump next week and may never be caught again.
From The Hill:
Donald Trump has opened up a seven-point lead over Hillary Clinton nationally, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday.
Trump has 44 percent support to Clinton’s 37 percent, according to the conservative-leaning Rasmussen. Another 13 percent favor another candidate, and six percent are undecided.
Thursday’s survey is the third week in a row that Trump has led Rasmussen’s weekly poll. It shows Trump at his highest level of support in a Rasmussen poll since October.According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton holds a 3.1-point lead over Trump, 44 to 40.9 percent. Most recent polls show Clinton ahead by a small margin, but a CBS News/NY Times poll also released Thursday showed Clinton and Trump in a tie.
The poll found that voters view Trump and Clinton equally regarding their preparedness for the White House.
Clinton has tremendous downside potential. She is scrambling to keep the women vote she assumed she had in her back pocket, she doesn’t have a prayer of snagging the youth vote, Independents have real problems with her, leaving her with the black vote and some Hispanic and that’s falling off.
Trump has much more upside potential than Clinton. Her deficits are not subject to change. His are. He can change his tone, he can apologize and/or reach out to those he’s alienated, he can put together a credible and capable team. Clinton will always be viewed as an insider who is never held accountable.
We will see better information when the first debate between these two takes place. Trump will go off script while Clinton sounds like a scorned grandmother.
