Don’t Forget Senators Who Voted to Give Away Your Gun Rights to the UN!

A few months ago, 46 senators voted to approve the UN Resolution 2117, otherwise known as the Small Arms Trade Treaty. Fortunately, 53 senators voted against it and for now, the U.S. will not put its provisions in place.

What does Resolution 2117 mean and what does it demand? First, the resolution has undergone numerous changes since its inception so looking at an old version would not provide you with the most up to date information. Second, “The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S. and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry, now get this,on all private guns and ammo.”

I’ve written articles about this before and the truth of the matter is that the United States has no business entering into any treaty with the United Nations. Technically, we can only enter into treaties with other sovereign nations and the UN is not a sovereign nation, but represents itself as one. Once a nation enters into any treaty with the UN, that nation loses some of its sovereignty and the UN treaty takes precedence over existing laws in that particular nation.

If the senate had voted to approve the Small Arms Trade Treaty, it would have essentially treated the 2nd Amendment as if it did not exist. The federal government would have been required to spend millions of dollars creating yet another agency to oversee the carrying out of all the provisions of the treaty. This would have included ensuring that the US stopped importing or exporting small weapons. Some erroneously believe that the weapons being referred to only apply to importing or selling to other countries with reference to military, but not average citizens of said country. Those people need to read the resolution thoroughly because they are wrong.

It would also create a system whereby eventually all weapons in the US would be registered in a national database. The resolution contains 21 points of agreement whereby each participating country would align themselves.

Number 11 states the following:

Calls for Member States to support weapons collection, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants, as well as physical security and stockpile management programmes (sic) by United Nations peacekeeping operations where so mandated;

If the U.S. had approved the treaty that Secretary of State John Kerry signed, it means the U.S. would have had to support collecting weapons (confiscation), and disarmament (confiscation). No longer would the federal government have to use the excuse that they are simply “collecting guns of criminals.” They would simply point to the Small Arms Trade Treaty voted into law by the U.S. Senate and pass the buck.

Fortunately, by because of seven senators,  Americans retain their rights under the 2nd Amendment. Here are the senators who voted to give your 2nd Amendment rights away to the UN:

  • Baldwin (D-WI)
  • Baucus (D-MT)
  • Bennett (D-CO)
  • Blumenthal (D-CT)
  • Boxer (D-CA)
  • Brown (D-OH)
  • Cantwell (D-WA)
  • Cardin (D-MD)
  • Carper (D-DE)
  • Casey (D-PA)
  • Coons (D-DE)
  • Cowan (D-MA)
  • Durbin (D-IL)j
  • Feinstein (D-CA)
  • Franken (D-MN)
  • Gillibrand (D-NY)
  • Harkin (D-IA)
  • Hirono (D-HI)
  • Johnson (D-SD)
  • Kaine (D-VA)
  • King (I-ME)
  • Klobuchar (D-MN)
  • Landrieu (D-LA)
  • Leahy (D-VT)
  • Levin (D-MI)
  • McCaskill (D-MO)
  • Menendez (D-NJ)
  • Merkley (D-OR)
  • Mikulski (D-MD)
  • Murphy (D-CT)
  • Murray (D-WA)
  • Nelson (D-FL)
  • Reed (D-RI)
  • Reid (D-NV)
  • Rockefeller (D-WV)
  • Sanders (I-VT)
  • Schatz (D-HI)
  • Schumer (D-NY)
  • Shaheen (D-NH)
  • Stabenow (D-MI)
  • Udall (D-CO)
  • Udall (D-NM)
  • Warner (D-VA)
  • Warren (D-MA)
  • Whitehouse (D-RI)
  • Wyden (D-OR)

Aside from two independents, all of them are Democrats. Anyone coming up for reelection this November needs to be voted out. Let’s not forget that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (CA) recently stated that she wants President Obama to sign an executive order banning all imports of semi-automatic pistols and rifles. He has no authority to do that but I’m not sure the U.S. Congress understands that or knows what to do if he tries.
