Nancy Reagan is the wife of arguably the greatest president of all time, and she spoke out this week to drop a bombshell about the 2016 election.
According to New York Daily News, the 94 year-old Reagan invited 16 of the 17 Republican candidates to the September GOP debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.
The former first lady invited Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, George Pataki, Rick Perry, Chris Christie, John Kasich, Bobby Jindal, Lindsey Graham, Rick Santorum and Ben Carson to the event, which will be hosted by CNN on September 16.
This came as bad news for Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, who was effectively snubbed by Reagan. Gilmore was not included because CNN ruled that in order to be invited, candidates must average at least 1% in three nationally recognized polls before September 10.
Gilmore has not yet been able to make this average. Like the Fox debates, the top ten candidates will compete in a second debate while the other candidates will go on first.
“Debates are a crucial part of the election process, and I’m thrilled that so many qualified candidates have the opportunity to be heard at the Reagan Presidential Library,” Reagan said in a press release.
