Fox Business Channel has announced the lineup for the two GOP Presidential Debates to be held on their network next Tuesday, November 10. The criteria they used has winnowed the field for the main debate to eight candidates. Chris Christie and Mike Huckabee are the odd men out, relegated to the dreaded “Undercard Debate.” If that’s not bad enough, Lindsey Graham and George Pataki didn’t even make the “Undercard Debate.”
The polls used to determine those in the debate were: Fox News Poll, NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, Quinnipiac Poll and the Investors Business Daily Poll. To make the undercard debate, candidates had to have received at least 1% in one of those polls. To make the main debate stage, a candidate had to average at least 2.5% in those four national polls. Christie and Huckabee had a total of 9 percentage points in the four polls – meaning they missed the main stage by ONE POINT. Rand Paul had exactly 10 percentage points in the four polls combined – meaning he made the 2.5% average by the skin of his teeth.
