Isn’t it amazing what a politician can do when he doesn’t have to care about sucking up to wealthy donors or the news media? By relying on his own wealth to fund his campaign, Donald Trump has effectively muted the media’s control over some important conversations this country desperately needs to have.
Of course the media will continue to demonize him, but they cannot ignore him. Since Trump has no need for donations the media attacks only serve to energize his core supporters, and to help that group grow in size. Being the consummate showman Trump relishes every media attack and public denunciation by the other candidates because he understands the value of publicity; you don’t have to like Trump to agree with him.
The other candidates, and the GOP leadership, should pay more attention to what Trump is accomplishing and less attention to what the media says about him. In his unique position in this campaign, Trump has dispelled a couple of long held misconceptions. First, he has demonstrated that money in politics is not necessarily a bad thing. Money is a tool like any other, and is used to wield power. Until now, the power has rested not only in the hands of wealthy donors and corporations, but with the left-wing news media as well. Trump is demonstrating that someone with money, power, and a message can turn the tables on those who are now calling the shots. The second and probably the most important thing is that Trump’s ability to speak the unvarnished truth has given voice to what a large percentage of Americans think about illegal immigration and in the process is putting to rest the lie that only an open border candidate can win the election. The Left would have us believe that the issue is ‘settled’ and that those of us who oppose amnesty are a fringe element, but Trump has blown that out of the water. Americans are rightly fed up with illegal immigration and what it is doing to this country, and those politicians who pretend otherwise do so at their own peril. Follow @TCUDispatches Do you agree?
