Media’s Obsession Over ‘BridgeGate’ by Mitch Behna

The double standard of the mainstream media between Obama’s numerous scandals and Chris Christie’s Bridgegate scandal is beyond disgusting. Many tea party conservatives, including myself, are not the biggest Chris Christie fans, but you don’t have to be one to notice the stark contrast of the media’s coverage. Along with Benghazi, there is the NSA, Obamacare, Fast and Furious, and the IRS scandals brewing, yet liberals are still more outraged over a bridge being blocked for political gains. Nobody condones this, but we don’t see the same outrage over Bridgegate as we did with the other half dozen scandals under Obama’s watch.

However, if you ask many liberals, they’ll say not only was a bridge shut down but that this shut down also lead to the death of 91-year-old Florence Genova. Despite this claim, her family members don’t contribute the bridge back up to her death. Her daughter, Vilma Oleri, said: “I honestly believe it was just her time.” Her husband also believed that “the traffic didn’t make any difference.” Even if the bridge did contribute to the death of Genova, then the liberals and media should show the same outrage for the cover up of 4 dead Americans from Benghazi.

To get a fair idea of how biased this media coverage has been, the Media Research Center has reported that “In less than 24 hours, the big three networks have devoted
17 times more coverage to a traffic scandal involving Chris Christie than they’ve allowed in the last six months to Barack Obama’s Internal Revenue Service controversy.” This is alarming, and unfortunately, not surprising. In today’s world, journalism from the mainstream media is no longer about reporting the balanced news. It is now about distorting the news as much as possible to fit your political agenda. They also reported the breaking news of Bridgegate on Wednesday, ABC, CBS, and NBC recorded 34 minutes and 28 seconds of coverage while recording only 2 minutes and 8 seconds on the IRS scandal tracking down Tea Party groups since July 1.

Chris Christie has been very professional dealing with the scandal so far. He spent 2 hours out of his busy schedule to address the situation to the press, expressing his humiliation, apologies, and answering all the questions directed to him. Christie also fired all of those on his staff responsible for the bridge scandal. I don’t recall Obama spending 2 hours addressing Benghazi immediately. In fact, he has a long record of hiring and promoting individuals, such as Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice, when they should be at least fired for their recklessness behind Benghazi. It is clear that if the roles were reversed, where Christie was a Democrat and Obama was a Republican, the media would be all over Benghazi, IRS, NSA, and the Fast And Furious scandals. We need to speak up and let the mainstream media know that this double standard has gone on long enough and is not acceptable.
