NJ School won’t recognize Muslim holiday at last minute; Angry Mother “Soon we will be the majority”

She wasn’t playing when she said it either!

Muslim parents in Jersey City became irate at a school board meeting in which the school board refused to close schools for the upcoming Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha on September 24th.

The school board said it was cause undue hardships and disruptions to thousands of families to close the school with only a week’s notice.

At one point the school board has to order security to take control of the room after many parents became unruly.

One Muslim mother addressing the school board said “We are no longer the minority as evidenced tonight. Soon we will be the majority!”

Members of the Jewish community also pointed out that it would be unfair to close schools for Muslim holidays when schools are not closed for Jewish holidays such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Under the current policy, students are allowed to take excused absences for religious holidays without any penalty to their academic record.
