NOT SO FAST! Supreme Court to decide on Obama’s illegal immigration executive action

The Supreme Court of the United States has announced that it will be taking on one of President Obama’s most controversial executive orders. The court will decide whether the president’s executive order that is shielding millions of illegal immigrants from deportation are constitutionally legal.

The President’s policy would allow millions of immigrants who entered the country illegally to stay here as long as certain educational or military commitments were met.

While the policy has been signed by the president, it has not yet gone into full effect because it has been blocked by several lower courts.

It could still be months before the court issues a ruling on the matter and depending on the timing; the president may have another chance to issue a new executive order before leaving office. If the court rules the action unconstitutional, it would be a major blow to the president’s legacy.

Lower courts have put the program on hold because those judges claim that the changes to existing policy are so significant that the administration should have gone through Congress to make a new law or, at a minimum, held a public comment period before making the changes.

It is estimated that over 4 million people would be allowed to stay in the country legally if the measure is not overturned.

What do you think will happen? Will the Supreme Court do the right thing this time? Will they stop Obama’s overreach before he leaves office? Share your comments below and let us know what you are thinking.
