Within moments of the shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School petitions went up at the White House petition site “We the People” calling for more gun control and more legislation by Congress. In other words, the desires of these people was more government intervention. While the time designated on the “We the People” site says that petitions must reach a designated goal of 25,000 signatures within 30 days and that the response could come at any time. Well, Barack Obama has already responded within just a few days.
At least thirty-two petitions got the same response. Most fell way short of getting a response by the White House’s own policies. The response was to petitions started that were both pro-gun and pro-gun control.
The top petition in the group garnered nearly 200,000 signatures in favor of more gun control legislation.
One petition that received 197,073 signatures, as of the writing of this article, reads:
The goal of this petition is to force the Obama Administration to produce legislation that limits access to guns. While a national dialogue is critical, laws are the only means in which we can reduce the number of people murdered in gun related deaths.
