“Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs. Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits, often without paying taxes…” – Harry Reid, 1993
In the wake of the news that two Guatemalan “Unaccompanied Alien Children” escaped from a taxpayer-funded facility and went on a crime spree which included the carjacking of a 91-year-old Navy Veteran, the nationwide rally being planned by the “Overpasses for America” movement against President Obama’s proposed executive action could not come at a better time.
The organization, which was founded by James Neighbors, has chapters in every state and boasts over 85,000 “likes” on Facebook. Each location for the “National Protest for the Border Invasion” is documented here , and you do not have to be a member to attend.
In an exclusive interview with WayneDupree.com, Neighbors said that the protest is to “let D.C. know that Americans do not want amnesty.” Expressing concern in particular for low-skilled workers, James observed that the most vulnerable populations will be most impacted by the flood of work permits that President Obama is expected to grant through “executive action” after midterm elections.
While speaking at Cross Campus in Santa Monica on Friday, President Obama attempted to further gain support for his anticipated push for amnesty, as reported Friday at CNN.
“Assuming Congress does not act,” Obama confirmed, “I will use all the executive authority that I legally have in order to make fixes in some of the [immigration] system…” Slamming Congress, Obama again revealed his complete disconnect with the American people by saying that Congress should support his overhaul:
If they [GOP] were thinking long-term politically, it is suicide for them not to do this.
In response to Obama’s statement, which conflicts with poll after poll of Americans, Neighbors said that President Obama’s “arrogance will lead to his demise.” Neighbors recommended that the reform needs to take place within naturalization, empowering those who seek citizenship to go through the process legally.
As an aside, Obama also touted the role of the government in the lives of entrepreneurs. He further addressed growing frustration with the federal government. He said,
As clunky and as frustrating as government and politics can sometimes be, the fact is, it’s still vital.
In addition to the influx of illegal immigrants, securing the border is vitally important for national security. Criminals, terrorists and those who seek medical facilities in America surely know that the southern border is porous. In fiscal year 2013, for example, Department of Homeland Security statistics show that border patrol agents “apprehended 112 immigrants from Guinea, 231 from Liberia and 145 immigrants from Sierra Leone, which are the three countries currently experiencing the most cases of Ebola.”
T.A. Barnart mimicked the sentiments expressed by many progressives at BlueOregon by insisting that “[E]very border the United States claims as its own was stolen, by force, from other people,” and that those seeking to enforce existing immigration laws are afraid of “brown people.” The truth is that every country has a right to protect its borders. Barnart also said that it is a “hate crime” not to allow illegal aliens to have driver’s licenses, which will soon be voted upon through a referendum in Oregon – after citizens rose up against a law passed by the Oregon legislature seeking to allow driver cards to Oregonians who can’t prove they’re in the country legally.”
