Political Correctness Attacking the Redskins, Again

There are many problems and issues our country is dealing with, whether it is Iraq, spending, debt, kids crossing the border, or a devastating economy. However, to liberals, these issues don’t seem to be on the top of their priorities list. This is because they’re focusing on changing the Washington Redskins NFL team name.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office appeals board canceled the trademark registration for the Redskins. However, this ruling didn’t make it change the team name now, but liberals, such as Harry Reid, are hoping so in the future. Reid, who applauded today’s ruling, said “Daniel Snyder may be the last to see this, but it’s just a matter of time before he’s forced to change the name. The writing is on the wall.”

What foolish politicians like Harry Reid do is put their personal opinions in front of the Constitution. If you look at the history and ask individuals, there are many Native Americans who aren’t offended by the team name. However, if you are like Reid and dislike it, you can’t constitutionally force Snyder to change the team name. This is a matter of the 1st Amendment, the freedom of speech, and it is disgusting how the federal government is pressuring Snyder to change the name, an issue that is none of their business.

If this doesn’t sound outrageous enough yet, well this definitely will. The Daily Caller reported a list of 12 trademarks that weren’t called out as offensive, like Redskins. Some of these include Kraut Kap, You Can’t Make A Housewife Out Of A Whore, and Cracka Azz Skateboards. I’m not saying these should be banned as well because people have freedom of speech, but it goes to show the irony and lack of priorities some folks have with certain terms.

There are also many schools and team names that are named after Indians. Why does the left always have to look at the name ‘Indian’ as offensive instead of heroic? Snyder and defenders of the team name would argue it to be heroic and a long, rich tradition. If the government and other organizations are going to bully the Washington Redskins to change their name, then what comes next? Will they force every high school, sports team, and organization to change their Native American names too? There are some who find Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s logo and name offensive, but are they eventually going to be bullied to change theirs? This political correctness is becoming so dangerous and has gone way too far. These individuals demanding the team change their name need to refocus on their priorities and realize there are many more important issues that need to be dealt with.
