As the video of Ray Rice punching her wife has been revealed, it turns out the same judge and prosecutor who agreed to have him avoid jail time, is going after a single mother of 2 who has no previous criminal background.
Last year, Shaneen Allen was pulled over for a minor traffic stop, and was arrested after informing the police officer that she was a law-abiding citizen who had a gun in the car while she showed him her concealed-carry permit from Pennsylvania. Because New Jersey does not legally validate her permit from another state, she is now facing up to 10 years in prison.
To add insult to injury, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain and New Jersey Superior Court Judge Michael Donio accepted Ray Rice into New Jersey’s Pre-Trial Intervention program which would help him avoid time in prison, while they denied the same intervention program to Allen. As for now, her trial will begin on October 6th.
Now anyone who had a decent bit of common sense would find this absurd. Other than the judge and prosecutor seeming to be folks that are anti-2nd Amendment, I cannot think of any other reason a law-abiding gun owner, who made an honest mistake, would be facing jail time while a former professional football player gets off the hook for punching his wife in the face.
This also needs to be a message sent to Governor Chris Christie and New Jersey that their gun control laws need to be addressed so that this never happens to another law-abiding citizen again. The first reform New Jersey needs to work on is accepting gun-permits from Pennsylvania and other states. Only time will tell if Shaneen Allen can end up avoiding jail time and go back home to her 2 kids.
