In a midsized conference room located at the Grand Hyatt above Grand Central Station there was a meeting of the GOP minds. It was the monthly NY Meeting organized by Mallory Factor (GOP fundraiser) and O’Brien Murray (GOP Consultant). The NY Meeting is an invite only event that gives Republicans in NYC (yes they do exist) the opportunity to hear from and question political leaders who are at the frontlines of the most pressing issues of the day. The most recent event included Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL) who spoke about immigration, Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX) who commented the foolish policy of retreat in the middle east, Michael Barone who spoke about repairing the perception of Conservatives and Republicans , and others who commented on fiscal and domestic policies.
Among all these issues the overriding question was, how do we get the Republican Party back on track? With conservatism under attack it is not going to be an easy road ahead. Despite the factions that seem to have developed within the Republican party including: social conservatives, economic conservatives, or national security conservatives, one message we can surely unite behind is the preservation of individual liberty!
David McIntosh, Chairman of the Conservative Action Project, pointed out what should be obvious to party leaders, the role of conservatives preserve the ideas, values and principles of personal liberty as laid out in the Constitution and it is the role of the Republican Party to identify candidates who will run on those conservative principles. Not because they are indebted to donors or voters but because it will benefit the everyday life of Americans and society as a whole.
The fight for Individual Liberty is where the true battle lies. If we stood strong against this ever growing government then there would be no Obamacare to invade the personal life/health choices of each and every American. There would be no EPA to restrict our agriculture, our energy development and risk our national security. There would be no infringement on our 2nd Amendment that does not just try to dictate what kind of arms we can own or how many bullets we can use but surrenders the rights of Americans over to International governments by way of the Arms Trade Treaty.
You don’t have to be conservative to understand the relationship between slave and master, prostitute and pimp or low information voter and tyrannical government does not promote the values that America was founded on. Surrendering your individual rights to other people who deems themselves better fit to make decisions for you is just another form of enslavement.
