Gretchen Carlson talked to Adkins (video below), asking him if he was satisfied with Manchin’s response. He called out Manchin specifically for his stance on coal mining, which is a major part of the state’s economy. Manchin claims to be at odds with the Obama administration on coal cuts, saying he had a “good dialogue” going with Obama that was shut down after he became president.
Adkins, however, pointed out that Manchin, as governor in 2009, signed into law a cap-and-trade bill that “basically requires us to cut 25 percent of our coal usage by 2025,” which “sounds to me a lot like one of Obama’s policies.”
He said that he wants other people to see the video and realize that they need to pay attention to what’s going on in government and hold elected officials accountable.
“So many times I think people look at government like it’s something distant from them or it’s something that they don’t want to have anything to do with. And a lot of times politicians take advantage of that. They tell us what we want to hear,” said Adkins.
