A Texas middle school teacher is facing disciplinary action after presenting one of her students with a mock award that fell completely flat.
What has happened to our teachers, they are totally out of touch with reality.
Lizeth Villanueva, 13, a seventh-grader and honors student at Anthony Aguirre Junior High in Channelview, was awarded “most likely to become a terrorist” from one of her teachers.
The award in itself was supposed to be a joke, a prank, and Lizeth said the teacher “just laughed” when she presented the award. This presentation happened one day after the Manchester Arena bombing in England.
Lizeth’s mother Ena Hernandez told the Washington Post. “I was upset and very mad when I saw the award, I was surprised because my daughter has been doing well in the honors program.”
Two separate honors classes were brought together for the mock ceremony, and three other teachers in the room also laughed as the various awards were handed out, said Lizeth.
Teaching used to be a profession of modesty, respect, and high intellectual achievements. Now, for the most part, is an occupation for people with degrees that cannot be used anywhere as a temporary job.
A statement issued by the Channelview Independent School District said that the teachers involved “have been disciplined according to district policy and the incident are still under investigation.”
Lizeth has yet to return to school because she feels “uncomfortable.”
Seriously, these are supposed to be educated people, and they come up with this ridiculous idea. Personally, aside from it being offensive, it seems to me that it is another form of bullying. I remember when I was in school, we focused on reading, writing, math, history (the uncensored version), etc. I don’t remember a teacher ever bringing up personal opinions or politics in any of my classes. Whatever happened to “go to school to get an education?”
This stuff isn’t a joke! It’s happening all over the world. These people are an awful, and they’re killing innocent people! So, yeah, people died in that attack, but let’s make a joke out of it a desensitize kids even more to what goes on in our world!
