A Rhode Island man was charged with murdering an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan for two years during a dispute in a parking lot that occurred just hours after the suspect’s 18 birthday.
Erico Montalvo, 18, was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly fatally stabbing Colby Mendonca, 26, and wounding his friend Russell Gleason, 25, during a fight.
What’s more surreal is Montalvo had just turned 18 a few hours before he murdered the veteran.
Mendonca and his friends were attempting to buy alcohol from a bootlegger in the store’s parking lot before the dispute, according to court documents obtained by Eyewitness News.
Witnesses said Mendonca pulled Montalvo off of Gleason ‘like the hero he is’ without realizing that the suspect had a knife on him. The dispute occurred behind a Walgreens in Providence after Montalvo’s car struck a truck containing Mendonca and his friends and the suspect attempted to flee the scene of the accident.
Officers who responded to the scene found Mendonca, who leaves behind a three-year-old girl named Natalia Lee, unresponsive and he died at Rhode Island Hospital, the Providence Journal reported.
“This man went over there, gave up two years of his life,” one of Mendonca’s friends, James Barata, told WJAR. “Didn’t get to see his daughter crawl. Didn’t get to enjoy that moment. He comes back here and dies on our home soil. Our home soil. He didn’t deserve this. Nobody does.”
Gleason, who was also Mendonca’s roommate, according to the Providence Journal, suffered stab wounds and was badly injured. He later helped police identify Montalvo.
Also, Where is Al-Not-So-Sharpton, the race baiter? I thought black lives matter? Oh, Because this guy was in the military, and lefties hate the military, his life doesn’t matter.
