What is Common Core? Common Core is a set of uniform national curriculum standards for K-12 developed by DC based organizations, under the auspices of the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). These standards are disguised to many uninformed as standards that will help our children become better prepared for college. The Standards cover mathematics and English language arts (although they also claim to cover “literacy” in other subjects such as science, history/social studies, and technical subjects). Common Core is a special interest takeover of education that replaces local control with national standards, treating every child as though they are the same and learn the same. We all know that this is not the case. We must do something to stop this takeover, but we first have to educate ourselves before we can educate others.
Below are a series of videos created by Stop Common Core, American Principles Project and the Concerned Women of America in Georgia on the Common Core State Standards. Watch Jane Robbins give a broad explanation of the problems with Common Core.
Help us stop Common Core today and get involved! All of our children are certainly not the same. Common Core fails because it takes control from parents and puts it in the hands of government bureaucrats. Common Core does for children what McDonald’s does for nutrition. We need to continue to educate others on why Common Core must be stopped.
Common Core does not make our children smarter. It takes away control from parents and teachers. It undermines the educational quality and choice. Parents will not be able to suggest changes to their local school’s standards or enroll their child in another public school with better standards. Common Core would limit parental choice and shut their voices out of their child’s education. It takes away the room for creativity from our children and the innovation of teaching from our educators.
Common Core creates a student-tracking database that will follow them for the rest of their lives. The information collected is more than just test scores and academic progress. Common Core will track information on religious practices, political beliefs, “sex behaviors and attitudes”, and more. Common Core will do more harm than good with our education system. It attempts to level the playing field when those on the field do not even play the same position, nor do they train or play in the same manner. It is a one-size-fits-all program and we all know that our children do not learn the same. Have you ever purchased a one-size-fits-all sweater or hat? It just doesn’t work. Good education policy realizes that all students have different learning styles, preferences, and paces. This is not good education policy. Then again, when does the federal government every truly create good policy in regards to our education system? Eyes. Roll.
