Three Americans are being hailed as heroes following yesterday’s attempted terror attack aboard a Paris-bound train.
Airman First Class Spencer Stone, Oregon National Guard Specialist Alek Skarlatos and college senior Anthony Sadler, three longtime friends on a European vacation, took immediate action when a 26-year-old Moroccan man with ties to radical Islam opened fire with an AK-47 rifle on the train.
Stone was injured by gunfire, but still managed to tackle and subdue the suspect before his friends, along with British businessman, 62 year old Chris Norman, were able to fully disarm and tie up the suspect.
According to an NBC report:
“I grabbed the handgun. Got the handgun away from the guy and threw it, and then I grabbed the AK-47, which was at his feet,” Skarlatos said.
“If anybody would have gotten shot, it would have been Spencer for sure,” he added. “We’re very lucky that nobody got killed, especially Spencer.”
Sadler went on to say that the four men beat the man until he was unconscious before tying him up.
The mayor of Arras, France issued medals to the men for their bravery aboard the train.
