CORRECTION: SC GOP Chairman: Gowdy’s office not confirming leaving congress

BREAKING: 11:34am

Matt Moore, Chariman of the South Carolina GOP is angry at the Washington Examiner and wants to let everyone to know it! Rep Trey Gowdy has not announced any retirement from the Congress. He also took a shot at the Washington Examiner.

ORIGINAL STORY (source: Washington Examiner)

Wednesday morning on CSPAN, Rep. John Fleming, R-La., broke the news Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., won’t run for a fourth term. This is shocking to everyone and probably more shocking than Speaker John Boehner leaving office because Gowdy is loved throughout the ranks of grassroots Americans. Fleming also added Gowdy plans to retire at the end of the current Congress to return to his home state.

Everyone knows Gowdy has stood for conservative principles, and made his case in the public eye with considerable talent, probably the most in our generation. He is a stark defender of the Constitution and that probably helped make his decision of not becoming a career politician.

Rep. Trey Gowdy

According the Washington Examiner:

“Trey wants to go back to South Carolina, and God bless him for that,” Fleming said on C-SPAN. When asked if that’s what Gowdy has told other Republicans, Fleming confirmed it.

“At the end of his term, yes,” he said. “He plans to go back home, and he wants to finish his work on the Benghazi special committee. But he loves South Carolina and he loves his family, and he wants to go back and spend the rest of his life there.”

“He’ll be sorely missed,” he added.

What do you think about this announcement? How do you feel about one of our best leaving? Do you understand his rationale? Share your opinions below in the comment section.
