After Rep. Paul Ryan publicly said he couldn’t support Donald Trump as the GOP nominee on Friday, all hell broke loose on conservative and liberal websites.
Many voters might not know that Ryan’s position at the GOP convention is chairman, and the nominee can remove the chairman if he so pleases for someone else. That would cause a huge problem and headache for everyone involved but if the establishment wants to hold up progress, Trump is carrying the cards right now, he’s in the drivers seat.
From NY Daily News:
2016’s dog-eat-dog Republican Party, Donald Trump keeps barking. The only question is: Will he bite?
The controversial and presumptive GOP front-runner on Sunday refused to rule out taking action to remove House Speaker Paul Ryan as Chairman of this summer’s Republican National Convention if the Wisconsin Republican, who is withholding his endorsement of the brash billionaire, doesn’t come around before the summit.
“If (Ryan) can’t endorse you, do you think he should be chair of the convention,” Chuck Todd, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” asked Trump in an interview that aired Sunday.
“I don’t want to mention now. I’ll see after. I will give you a very solid answer, if that happens, about one minute after that happens,” Trump responded. “Let’s see what happens.”
