A Twitter video showing a police officer slamming a Ferguson protester to the ground yesterday is picking up steam on social media.
In the video, a group of protestors are blocking interstate traffic. Officers move into corral the protesters off the road. Most of the protestors comply, however, one protester breaks away from the group and throws his hands out to the side while jumping around. While audio is unclear, there was probably a “Come at me bro!” somewhere in there.
An officer approaches the man from behind, grabs him, and slams him to the ground. Officers then move into secure and arrest the man.
Protestors are calling the video an example of police brutality. Here is the description posted along with the video on Facebook:
Ferguson Police Are OUT OF CONTROL . . . They Are Caught On CAMERA . . . BODY SLAMMING A Peaceful Protester!! (He Was Chanting A PROTEST SLOGAN . . . And The Officer Slammed Him UFC-STYLE) #BlackLivesMatter
While the post mentions Ferguson Police, it appears that the officer was likely either a St. Louis County or State Police Officer.
While the protestors claim this was a peaceful protest, it should be noted that interfering with interstate travel and commerce is a federal offense and could be punished by up to 20 years in prison in some instances.
