Authorities are calling an attack on Chicago Police officers this morning an “ambush”. According to local media reports, officers were responding to a call of an injured woman when a man opened fire on them with a shotgun.
Two officers were shot and injured. Officers managed to return fire and kill the suspect along with a second man.
Police said the 24-year-old was the alleged gunman. His mother, a 59-year-old woman, was also injured in the shooting and was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The 60-year-old man’s relationship to the gunman is not know.
According to authorities the incident began when there was a 911 call from the 59-year-old woman who was said she had shortness of breath. When police arrived after the ambulances, the officers were ambushed.
Officers are still investigating the role each person played in the incident as well as the possible motivation.
