Wake up America! I wish this was a joke, but it isn’t. The Department of HHS and USDA for the first time are advising Americans to change their diets, based on environmental factors to combat ‘climate change’. The panel that made the suggestion, unsurprisingly recruited by the Obama administration, is planning to release the next nutritional guidelines this year.
The 2015 U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee made the following remarks.
Consistent evidence indicates that, in general, a dietary pattern that is higher in plant-based foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, and lower in animal-based foods is more health promoting and is associated with lesser environmental impact (GHG emissions and energy, land, and water use) than is the current average U.S. diet.
Not only is this disturbing to me, but some meat manufacturers are not happy with the proposal. People are not forced to eat meat, hence why there are many vegetarians as well. But not only to put pressure on an entire industry but to advocate eating less meat to supposedly help the environment is ludicrous.
This is just another act from the federal government to try to push an environmental agenda, in which the science is anything but settled. Even the recommended food pyramid that we were taught as kids is being politicized to push an agenda. I fear the day that this ‘advising’ of the federal government to eat less meat will turn into a mandate of some sort. The Founding Fathers would never have envisioned the size of draconian government we have today, so it would be pathetic to think a mandate to refrain from meat is not possible.
And besides, why else would the feds be pushing this now in 2015, other than ‘climate change’? Our parents, grandparents, and previous generations made it through life, and the environment turned out just fine even with all the historical meat consumption in this country. But today it is sickening to hear about so-called ‘climate change’ everywhere we go, and nobody would have ever thought 30 years ago that we would have a potential dietary guideline that includes environmental issues. I fear to think what will come in the future if too many people are apathetic and do not care. We have a federal government that is getting bigger every single year, and we must work to bring back and preserve the America our Founding Fathers created, for the sake of our kids, grandkids, and future generations.
