WAKE UP DENMARK! Gun Control Did Not Stop Copenhagen Shootings

With yesterday’s shootings in Copenhagen, Denmark, it reminds us of something: Gun control did not prevent this.

According to, Denmark’s regulation of guns is considered ‘restrictive’ and the weapon claimed to have been used by the shooter is already illegal for civilians. Even handguns are not so easy to obtain.

And from a Harvard study, it has been found that gun control is actually counterproductive.

If the mantra “more guns equal more death and fewer guns equal less death” were true, broad cross-national comparisons should show that nations with higher gun ownership per capita consistently have more death. Nations with higher gun ownership rates, however, do not have higher murder or suicide rates than those with lower gun ownership. Indeed many high gun ownership nations have much lower murder rates.

Denmark is an example of a European country with strict gun control, yet has a higher number of murders relative to other European countries like Norway, which has higher gun ownership.

This question must be asked: How many more deaths by guns will it take for countries with heavy gun control to wake up? They need gang control, not gun control because criminals will NEVER obey gun laws. Only law abiding citizens follow the law, and this has been said thousands of times, but it needs to be repeated because anti-gun activists keep refusing to listen.

In fact, the United States, for example, has the highest gun ownership rates in the world, yet only ranks 28th in homicide gun rates, not number 1 like many anti-gun activists like to claim.

The left also likes to make fun of NRA’s Wayne LaPierre when he said that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun. And he’s right because this is probably the case 99% of the time. However, all his opponents do is try to come up with ONE example that is contrary to this idea, try to verify it, and then claim LaPierre is crazy for his comments.

So while we grieve with Denmark, stating the fact that gun control didn’t prevent this has to be stated. If anti-gun activists are serious about reducing these shootings, they need to look at this data and accept the fact that perhaps it is not the gun itself that is the problem, but the criminals and the gun control laws that help empower them.
