Was Isaiah Washington the First LGBT Mafia Hit?

I spent some time over the weekend relaxing and catching up on several DVR’d shows I never seem to find the time for these days.  While watching Scandal, I was both thrilled and surprised to see ABC advertise the May 1st Grey’s Anatomy episode marking the return of Dr. Preston Burke.

In 2005, I was but one of the millions faithfully tuning in to Grey’s Anatomy, a weekly drama series about the personal and professional lives of 20 something physicians and one of the best written shows to debut in years. Grey’s Anatomy took off quickly, making stars out of a carefully selected group of actors.

Mcdreamy and Meredith, Izzie and Alex, and the couple who simply oozed chemistry, Dr. Christina Yang and Dr. Preston Burke played by Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington.

The rumors surrounding Isaiah Washington’s use of a homophobic slur during an exchange with fellow cast mate T.R. Knight began in 2006 and ended with Knight coming out of the closet as gay and Washington’s subsequent firing in 2007.

Although I did not realize the significance at the time, Washington’s firing not only spelled the decline of a great television series, where talented actors are sacrificed for the not so talented in the name of political correctness, but also it emboldened an already strong LGBT movement’s use of mafia like tactics.

The successful “outing” of Isaiah Washington as a “homophobe” and his removal from the hit series paved the way for the firing of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson, the forced resignation of Mozilla’s CEO Brendan Eich and most recently HGTV’s canceling of the series Flip it Forward because the Benham brothers support…wait for it…traditional marriage.

The LGBT Mafia is on the rise, and make no mistake about this, they are not interested in your tolerance or acceptance of their sexuality/lifestyle. The LGBT Mafia will accept nothing less than your endorsement, your complete submission to their will.  Much like the mafia, although small in numbers (approximately 4% of the US population) they bind together and use fear, intimidation and political correctness run amuck to silence those who dare stand against them.

By caving to the demands of the LGBT Mafia, the executives of ABC, A&E, HGTV and Mozilla show they believe that in order to survive, they must kiss the ring or pay the price.
