Tonight on the Wayne Dupree Show, we are introducing “Wayne’s Take.” This is where I open the show with a quick burst of my personal thoughts on a subject.
Now that we are broadcasting on a regular radio clock, that means we have hard breaks like a regular radio show. What I decided was to give you my thoughts on subjects that are trending in the news.
Tonight’s Subject – O’Reilly Departure
Bill O’Reilly has been a mainstay on the Fox News network for over 20 years. He’s been the brand of Fox News and they have used him in their 8 PM ET each night to building one of the largest bases ever created in primetime. He can be considered an icon to some, a hero to others and a villain to the few.
Let me cut straight to the point. I don’t know if O’Reilly did what he was accused of and neither do you. We have been told by the mainstream media that it’s true so many people believe it while others scoff at it. What I do know is I never thought this is the way O’Reilly was going to go out.
I thought it would be on his own terms but this is not in that direction and I can see Fox News point of view. O’Reilly was hemorrhaging sponsors and if they had leaked over into the regular Fox News programs it would have been curtains.
Fox News needed to do something or risk the entire network. Do I agree with Fox News letting O’Reilly go? Yes. I never watched his show but survival of the network is more important than the ego of one man. Bill saw the writing on the wall and from what I hear, he wants to end the show on his own terms. He wants to say goodbye. Whoever replaces him will lose viewers but in time they might come back.
Love him or not, O’Reilly was 8 PM EST on Fox News. Nobody can ever take his place, ever.
