If you think climate change has never been blamed for the destruction caused from ISIS, think again. Eric Holthaus from liberal source Slate thinks so. In the first paragraph of his article he published today, he says the following.
By now, it’s pretty clear that we’re starting to see visible manifestations of climate change beyond far-off melting ice sheets. One of the most terrifying implications is the increasingly real threat of wars sparked in part by global warming. New evidence says that Syria may be one of the first such conflicts.
If this was the case, there would be war in every single area that faces droughts, which is clearly not the case. Remember the droughts we faced a couple years ago during the summertime? There weren’t wars breaking out here. The author fails to realize it isn’t climate that drives these wars, but it’s the ideology of radical Islam. We cannot win the war against ISIS if the left keeps on refusing to call them Islamic and thinks so called ‘climate change’ is the cause of their killing sprees.
This article isn’t any exception. Far left sources like Mother Jones pushed the same type of thinking when they published a similar article in 2013.
A couple of paragraphs later, Holthaus then claims a new study published by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Science stated that anthropogenic global warming contributed to these droughts. However, I doubt the legitimacy of that study and even if it was true, Holthaus will not tell you that that same organization also published another study titled “Atmospheric controls on northeast Pacific temperature variability and change, 1900-2012.” It stated that “Northeast Pacific coastal warming since 1900 is often ascribed to anthropogenic greenhouse forcing…century-long warming around the northeast Pacific margins, like multidecadal variability, can be primarily attributed to changes in atmospheric circulation.”
Holthaus proceeds by saying “severe drought resumed in late 2013, and ISIS has used the resulting water shortfall to its advantage.” However it just says that ISIS took advantage of the drought, not that the drought was the primary motive for wanting to go on killing sprees. Taking advantage of something and motive to fight are two different things.
Besides, has it occurred to the author that ISIS itself never said ‘climate change’ is why they’re waging war against the rest of the world? It is clearly the views of Islamic extremism that drives these evil individuals to kill. However, the left refuses to admit this, simply because they view it as politically incorrect and insensitive.
Until these individuals admit its radical Islam, not so called ‘climate change’ that is the motive behind ISIS, they can’t be defeated. The first step to defeat ISIS is admitting who exactly they are, but the left is too politically correct to do so. We’re dealing with a modern day holocaust and anybody claiming this has to do with ‘climate change’ cannot be taken seriously.
