What You Need To Know About Ebola

The Ebola Virus has been around since 1976 in West Africa. Since its discovery, it has claimed over 2,300 lives in Africa. 2014 stands so far as the worst outbreak in history, mainly in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Thomas Eric Duncan flew into Dallas, Texas from Liberia after treating a pregnant woman who died from Ebola. He signed papers saying he did not come in contact with any diseases, but obviously lied. He is now in critical condition.

Ebola kills about 90% of those who catch it. Ebola has five known strains, four of which cause illness in humans. In West Africa, Ebola is contracted usually from bush-meat from bats and monkeys via hunters. Ebola is also transferred through blood and other bodily fluids.

So you cannot catch it, according to the CDC, from shaking hands and it is not air-born.

Common symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • Massive headaches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Internal organ bleeding
  • Skin rash
  • Bleeding through the eyes
  • Eventual organ failure and death

Ebola is so dangerous because we do not know where it really came from and we don’t have a cure for it yet.

Ebola, once in your system, creates a special protein that helps hide itself from anti-bodies in your immune system. So your body can’t fight it, it needs external help, which we don’t have yet.

President Obama should stop all flights to and from West Africa until Ebola is contained. Also, if a man can lie about having come in contact with the disease and fly into the United States legally, doesn’t it make sense anyone infected can come across our southern border too?

The United States should contain Ebola, not ISIS.
