WILLIS: Trump’s Immigration Reform: The Question NBC Forgot To Ask

Here is the lead paragraph in a story by Mark Murray at NBC News:

Now that Donald Trump has called to deport all of the undocumented immigrants living in the United States, here’s the natural follow-up question: How much would that cost?

Did you notice he threw in the phrase “natural follow-up question” there to make it sound like he was committing an act of journalism? He then provides “the answer”:

More than $100 billion — if not $200 billion.

He goes on to back up those numbers with estimates from such reliable sources as President Obama’s ICE deputy director and the Center for American Progress, both of whom are proponents of open borders.

Had any real journalism taken place, someone might have bothered to dig just a little deeper and ask a few more questions such as:

What does it cost to NOT deport illegal aliens?

When you count the cost of healthcare, education, welfare, food stamps, law enforcement and incarceration of illegal aliens, I suspect the numbers would add up rather quickly. Then you would have to consider the negative economic impact on displaced American workers, suppressed wages, and public health hazards and that number would grow even larger. Just to top it off let’s include the amount of money those illegal immigrants are sending back to their home countries, taking dollars out of our economy.

Oh, by the way, remember the guys that flew the planes into the World Trade Centers? Yep, lax immigration enforcement allowed 15 of the 19 into the country that should have been denied. How much did that cost? Better yet, how much will the next one cost?

The implication of the NBC story was that America would be much better off if we just let the illegals stay and give up on our efforts to enforce our immigration laws, but it doesn’t take a lot of effort to understand why that is simply insane.

By allowing illegal immigrants to flood into the country with no restrictions, more and more will be encouraged to do exactly the same thing, exacerbating an already serious problem. If it really is going to cost $200 Billion to deport the illegals we have now, how much will it cost 5 years from now?
