Breitbart News reports that Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) is preparing for battle against House Speaker John Boehner when Congress returns in the fall. Rep. Meadows, if you will recall, is the Congressman who made a motion to declare the Speaker’s seat vacant earlier this summer, a move that could have forced Boehner out with enough votes. Boehner managed to side-step the measure rather than letting it come up for a vote, but Meadows has a plan to prevent that from happening again.
By bringing up the measure as a privileged resolution, Boehner will have to allow a vote, something he was not willing to let happen the last time. According to the article, Meadows is confident that he is gaining support for replacing the Speaker. Meadows says his efforts are not as a result of any personal vendetta against Boehner, he is simply trying to fix what he and his constituents see as a broken Congress.
The effort is certainly unusual, and some critics are already referring to his quest as “Mission Impossible”, but there is a growing sentiment that John Boehner is part of the problem rather than part of the solution and needs to be replaced. Someone has to try, and Meadows is willing to be the one to stick his neck out and try.
The fact that he is willing to try, even if his efforts seem likely to fail, sets him apart from the posers that are now occupying positions of Congressional Leadership. After pledging to stop Obamacare, Cromnibus, and Executive Amnesty during the elections, they tucked their tails and did nothing because it was too hard to do.
Meadows is going into this knowing that he might very well fail, and he knows from experience just how much it can cost him politically, but the man is showing strength and courage in an effort to actually do what he was elected to do. Wouldn’t it be awesome if everyone we sent to Washington showed that much integrity, even when it was difficult?
The sad truth is that Washington is full of politicians who are either bald-faced liars or cowards, or more likely both, and when someone comes along who is neither it makes the news and it makes the rest of them scared and angry.
When the three American Marines stopped the terrorist attack on the train in France a few weeks ago, I heard a British passenger say that when he heard the shots, his first reaction was to hide, but then he heard one of the Americans say “Let’s get him”, so he decided to join them. Courage inspires courage, and hopefully Mark Meadows’ courageous actions will inspire more of our Congressmen to do the same.
