Kam Brock is a name you’ve probably never heard before, but what happened to this poor woman is a story everyone should know.
A 32-year-old Long Island woman was driving home one evening when the NYPD seized her 2003 BMW 325Ci because they allege that she was high on marijuana, though none was found in her vehicle. When she became emotional in the police station, she was forcibly sedated and removed to the Harlem Hospital where she was kept for eight days. After being told she was delusional and bipolar, Brock was forced to take Lithium and Lorazepam, as well as endure group therapy and sedative injections.
What was it that made the police think she was crazy? She insisted that she was a banker, and that Obama follows her on Twitter. Without checking either of these allegations, police shipped her off to a mental hospital.
“I told (the doctor) Obama follows me on Twitter to show her the type of person I am. I’m a good person, a positive person. Obama follows positive people!” Brock, whose Twitter handle is @AkilahBrock, said.
“Next thing you know, the police held onto me, the doctor stuck me with a needle and I was knocked out,” Brock said, tearing up. “I woke up to them taking off my underwear and then went out again. I woke up the next day in a hospital robe.”
If anything could make her ordeal worse, it would be the “master treatment plan” that the hospital generated.
“Objective: Patient will verbalize the importance of education for employment and will state that Obama is not following her on Twitter.”
They couldn’t be bothered to check out this woman’s story before they medicated and hospitalized her? By the way, @BarackObama, President Obama’s 2012 campaign account does follow her, and she works at a Long Island bank.
I would think that a urine sample would quickly squash the notion that she was high on any drug, and allow her to go freely about her business. Instead, she was given drugs she didn’t need or want and was held against her will by people who were too incompetent to call her alleged place of business to verify her employment story.
Brock is suing the city and Harlem Hospital for her mistreatment.
