Although Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have not officially declared their presidential runs for 2016, everything says they very well are. Doug Stafford, an aide to Paul, said: “Unless Kelly says no, he’s running.” Kelly is the wife of Rand Paul.
On the other hand, an advisor to Ted Cruz said “at this point, it’s 90/10 he’s in. And honestly, 90 is lowballing it.”
With this news, I’m very pleased, because Ted Cruz and Rand Paul happen to be my top 2 presidential picks for 2016, and here’s why:
Ted Cruz: He’s fresh, bold, intelligent, and one of the biggest faces of the Tea Party movement. Despite all the pressure, Cruz continued on to make his marathon filibuster regarding Obamacare in September 2013 that lasted over 21 hours. Although the liberals and entire mainstream media criticized him for shutting down the government, even though we know that isn’t true, Cruz stood his ground and is one of the few members of the GOP who kept his pledge to repeal Obamacare. He is a conservative, not merely a Republican, and isn’t afraid to call out just Democrats, but Republicans as well who do not support the Constitution or limited government. He also never gets angry when he does face his critics. You will notice he appears calm and collective and uses intelligent responses instead of rage and anger.
Rand Paul: Although Rand is not as libertarian as his dad Ron Paul, he does share some libertarian views, which sits well with younger voters who do not want to continue down the road of big government. He seems to have a unique ability to have the support of many independents, including some liberals and Democrats as well. Unbelievably of all people, it was Bill Maher who said last month “Rand Paul is an interesting candidate to me. Rand Paul could possibly get my vote.” We know Bill Maher is anything but a conservative, so this would be huge for 2016 if we had more liberals like Bill Maher that have the same view for Rand. Another observation of him is his consistency in support constitutional, limited government. There are many so-called conservatives who claim to support small government but happen to be nothing but war-mongers who want to get involved in every single war. Rand has the balance of not being an isolationist, but not being too interventional as well, which I love about him.
I believe both Paul and Cruz are the best options we have for 2016, unlike Mitt Romney who actually is considering a third run for president. There are also big government Republicans, such as Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, who are potential candidates who I do not support. Will the GOP elites ever learn from their dumb choices and finally pick a fresh, bold conservative instead of RINOS? I hope they finally get their act together and pick someone who’s an actual conservative, like Rand Paul or Ted Cruz. They both have my full support, and I hope the majority of America will as well.
