The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association requested that blue lights illuminate the White House in honor of the slain Dallas police however, their request has been ignored. According to White House press secretary Josh Earnest the White House will not be honoring the request saying, “That’s not something we plan to do at this point.”
Nate Catura, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, is speaking out against the decision, calling it “outrageous” and a “slap in the face” to police.
“I’m not surprised, but I’m very disappointed,” Mr. Catura said. “We have slain police officers that were intentionally targeted, they were assassinated. … He states that he’s sorry for the police officers and the families, but his actions in this case speak louder than his words.”
Throughout his presidency, President Obama has often conducted himself in a manner that is completely disgraceful to the office he holds and to the people he is tasked to serve. He embarrassed himself during the Dallas memorial service by politicizing the event with remarks that had nothing to do with honoring the slain officers. And now, his unwillingness to illuminate the White House in honor of law enforcement after this awful shooting is just another slap in the face.
This might not seem like a big deal to some people but consider the other events that have warranted colored lights at the White House during this president’s term. In 2013 the White House was lit in pink for breast cancer awareness and in 2015, it was lit up in rainbow colors to celebrate the Supreme Court legalizing same-sex marriage.
Although the President has opted not to honor our slain officers with blue lights at the White House, Governor Abbott lit up the Texas Governor’s Mansion.
