As testing continues to expand across the nation and the U.S. learning that it had 122,666 confirmed coronavirus cases, the nation witnessed another grim figure on Saturday; More than 2,000 COVID-19 patients have died.
According to Johns Hopkins University, nearly 18,000 new cases were reported on both Wednesday and Thursday, and as of Saturday night, the death toll reached 2,147 deaths.
With more testing on the horizon, that number is expected to rise in the coming days and weeks.
Confirmed coronavirus-related deaths in the United States doubled in two days, surpassing 2,000 Saturday and highlighting how quickly the virus is spreading through the country.
Johns Hopkins University reported that confirmed deaths rose to more than 30,000 around the world. The U.S. ranked sixth in deaths, after Italy, Spain, China, Iran and France. Italy alone had more than 10,000 dead.
The U.S. death toll has risen abruptly in recent days. It topped 1,000 just Thursday.
Rhode Island announced its first two deaths from the coronavirus, leaving just three states with zero reported deaths: Hawaii, West Virginia and Wyoming.
The risk of death from COVID-19 is greater for older adults and people with other health problems. In most cases, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, which can include fever and cough and milder cases of pneumonia. [Associated Press]
There’s no other way to describe both the “recommended” and mandatory quarantines that many in the world are experiencing than to call them what they are, a state of de-facto martial law, which isn’t being formally declared not to provoke any more panic than there already is.
Now that de-facto martial law of a seemingly indefinite period has been accepted by the people (whether willingly or begrudgingly), it’ll probably become the “new normal” and be implemented countless times in the future under any other pretext.
“Big Brother” is already here, but he’s going to become a bigger bully than ever before by intensifying his censorship of people’s social media posts on the basis that they’re “socially irresponsible” (e.g., questioning the seriousness of this disease), after which the “politically incorrect” net will widen to encompass other topics too.
I believe that Pres. Trump will, very soon, ease government restrictions and will get our economic train rolling again. It is one of his main talents and expertise.
We all need to step back and let him do his job instead of yelling at him that this nationwide shutdown was stup…err…not the wisest decision he has made even though his decision was based on worst-case scenarios presented by his experts.
