You might have missed this from the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epicenter this past weekend.
On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced he was extending the state’s PAUSE order for another two additional weeks. The current policy was supposed to be in place until at least April 15.
Cuomo is doing everything in his power to help you forget that he and de Blasio decided to have the Chinese new year celebration on the 25th even though he was warned not to. San Francisco, Miami. and many others decided to cancel, but in New York, thousands gathered each day for five days straight. Now that the public is paying the human toll for that decision. He hopes everyone forgets who made the decision claims he needs anther 40,000 ventilators even though he has thousands in a stockpile unused as of yet.
Cuomo said his state has been the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S.
Pres. Trump had brought up the idea of quarantining New York, New Jersey and parts of Connecticut but later walked back those plans on Saturday.
Cuomo said the decision to expand the order would be made every two weeks, indicating the governor doesn’t see April 15 as the end of his PAUSE program, which he enacted March 20. The PAUSE order directed “non-essential businesses” in New York to close by 8 p.m. on March 22. The order also banned all “non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason.” Essential businesses, like grocery stores and healthcare facilities, have remained open.
New Yorkers are not prohibited from leaving their homes, though the state recommended people only leave their homes for necessary reasons, like trips to the grocery store or the pharmacy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called for the cancelation of events that require groups larger than 10 to congregate.
To that extent, hoops at 80 basketball courts across New York City were removed by officials in order to prevent groups of people coming together to play, NY1 reported. The CDC says people should remain six-feet apart to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“What’s not fine anymore is any kind of basketball game between people who do not live under the same roof, because, let’s face it, it’s a contact sport, people are going to get close together, it creates a danger,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who ordered the hoops removed, said according to NY1. Let’s get this straight. New York State and New York City are not the same. He needs to shut down the city. He does not know what he is doing. The state does not have the problem that the city has. He has allowed busloads of people to leave the city to spread the virus around. He is the problem.
As for those who continue to think this is fake, it would be a mistake to relax social distancing in portions of the country that have not yet experienced a serious outbreak. That attitude is what got us to the crisis we are now in. The infections we see are more than a week behind the infections that have occurred.
We should curb all contact between people that is not economically necessary. We can beat this thing but we need everyone on board.
