ACLU’s Statement on James O’Keefe/Project Veritas Raid Leave Everyone Stunned

As you likely know by now, the FBI raided James O’Keefe and journalists who work for Project Veritas. The hullabaloo started over a reported unconfirmed copy of Ashley Biden’s diary. The diary, which has not been authenticated, shows the author, who claims to be “Ashley Biden,” revealing that her father, Joe Biden, engaged in “inappropriate showers” with her when she was young, and she was in therapy because of the abuse.

The rumors of the diary’s existence have been floating around for a while now, and reports have been written about it, but it’s never been officially authenticated. The story goes that O’Keefe was given a copy of the diary, and wasn’t able to authenticate it, so he turned it over to the FBI, who then turned around and raided him and some of his journalists.

Why this happened is anyone’s guess. But that move by the FBI appears to “authenticate” the diary in many people’s minds.

Many people believe that the reason the FBI “raided” O’Keefe was to get their hands on his phone and see who his contacts are. They did that and then leaked some of that info to the New York Times.

The whole thing wreaks of “Soviet-style” tactics against the political enemies of the regime… and if this had happened when President Trump was in office, the media would’ve melted down, but since it didn’t and this is a hit against a “political enemy” the left is cheering.

Well, not everyone on the left…

Shockingly enough, the very left-leaning ACLU is actually coming out on the side of O’Keefe and Project Veritas.

In a recent statement, the ACLU said what the FBI did could cause serious consequences for the press, and even called for a deeper investigation into the matter.

Here’s the statement:

The following is a statement from Brian Hauss, senior staff attorney with ACLU’s Speech and Technology Project, in response to an FBI raid on Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe:

“The precedent set in this case could have serious consequences for press freedom. Unless the government had good reason to believe that Project Veritas employees were directly involved in the criminal theft of the diary, it should not have subjected them to invasive searches and seizures. We urge the court to appoint a special master to ensure that law enforcement officers review only those materials that were lawfully seized and that are directly relevant to a legitimate criminal investigation.”

I am sure it pained the ACLU to have to write that statement and stick up for O’Keefe, but it was the right and the ONLY thing to do.

This issue has caught the attention of lawmakers on the right, and Tom Cotton is now seeking answers from Merrick Garland on why this happened.

And all of this follows the “political prisoner” disgrace for January 6th attendees and the very recent arrest of Steve Bannon after he was held in contempt of Congress – something Loretta Lynch and Eric Holder both did and were never arrested.

If you don’t think the left is wielding their power like commies and trying to imprison their political enemies, you’re not paying attention.
