The findings of a new poll in Georgia show that Democrat Stacey Abrams is lagging two of the state’s leading Republicans for the office of governor in the Peach State.
School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia conducted a survey for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on hypothetical 2022 elections Former Georgia senator David Perdue, who is running for governor against incumbent Republican Brian Kemp, would have a bigger lead over Stacey Abrams if the election were conducted today.
Respondents to the poll indicated they would vote for Kemp 48 percent of the time, while 41 percent said they would vote for Stacey Abrams. 8% of those polled said they have no idea who to vote for.
Abrams’ chances of defeating Perdue, who has been endorsed by former President Trump, are not much better. Perdue beat Abrams by a margin of 47 percent to 43 percent in a poll of the public.

After losing the 2018 Georgia governor’s race to Republican Brian Kemp, Abrams stated this month that she will run for re-election to the office in 2020.
Abrams’ popularity has soared in the Democratic Party and throughout the country since last year. As the Democratic Party’s answer to Trump’s State of the Union speech in 2019, Abrams has been on multiple magazine covers and was briefly considered as Vice President Biden’s running partner.

Former President Trump backed Perdue over Kemp because Kemp “can’t win because the MAGA base, which is massive, would never vote for him,” Trump claimed.

Only 21% of those polled indicated Trump’s support of a candidate will influence their vote in Kemp’s favor, despite the fact that 49% of those polled approved of his work as governor.
Republicans’ fast response director Tommy Pigott highlighted that just 33.7 percent of Georgians approve of Biden, while 61.5 percent disapprove, according to the survey results.
Biden’s trip to Atlanta caused “scheduling confusion” for Stacey Abrams, according to Pigott.
