Believe It Or Not, Americans Are Split Down The Middle On How They View The Jan 6th Capitol Riot

According to a recent survey from Quinnipiac University, Americans are split on how they see the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, with roughly half believing it is probable that a similar incident would occur in the future.

An overwhelming majority (56 percent) of those who answered the poll believe it is either somewhat or very probable that another assault on the Capitol would occur at some time in the future, while just 43 percent believe it is either not so likely or not at all.

  • 61% said that then-President Donald Trump holds some or a lot of responsibility for the Capitol riot.
  • 61% of respondents support the congressional investigation of the Capitol riot.
  • 50% said that the Capitol riot was an attack on democracy and that it should never be forgotten.
  • 44% said that the reaction to the Capitol riot was overblown and that people should move on.
  • 36% said that Trump bears not much or no responsibility for the riot.
  • 33% oppose the inquiry.

More poll findings include the following:

  • 34% think another attack is somewhat likely.
  • 22% think another attack is not so likely.
  • 21% think another attack is not likely at all.
  • 19% of respondents think another attack is very likely.

From January 7-10, 2022, 1,313 individuals throughout the country were polled for the Quinnipiac University Poll, which had a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
