British Court Humiliates Meghan Markle By Awarding Her Just $1.30 Settlement

Meghan Markle won a legal battle against The Daily Mail. But in the end, it was she was who left humiliated, when the court only awarded her a measly $1.30 – a definite slap in the ol’ face, according to experts.

The hubbub started over a letter that she had written to her father back in August, 2018. She was trying to get her dad to stop running his mouth in the press.

Well, the media got a hold of the letter and Daily Mail printed it, and Meghan sued them.

The courts agreed that Meghan’s privacy had been breeched. Daily Mail tried to argue that it was in the “best interest of the public” to read the letter. In the UK, journalists may bypass copyright and privacy laws if the information is in the public’s interest.

The courts did not buy Daily Mail’s argument, so they ruled in Meghan’s favor… and all she got for it was a lousy dollar-thirty.

Of course, Daily Mail will also have to pay Meghan’s legal bills, which are well over one million.

Breitbart reported that Guardian media lawyer Mark Stephens, said the £1 settlement implied a weakness in Meghan’s case: “Normally for that kind of invasion of privacy you would expect £75,000 to £125,000 [$100-175k]. It does show that the curation of her reputation was an area where she had effectively invaded her own privacy.”

Well, maybe the judge watched that ghastly Oprah interview, where she and Harry spilled their personal and private guts all over the floor?

Meghan certainly isn’t a “wallflower” who is known for being “private.”

Hardly. She’s an opportunistic glory hound.

The Duchess of Sussex declared victory saying after the ruling: “This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what’s right”.

Privately, ANL media group has agreed to pay Markle a confidential sum to avoid going to court over infringing her copyright when they published the letters.

The British government insisted that a “free press is one of the cornerstones of any democracy” and promised to “carefully” study the “implications and judgement” of the case.

Sounds like they’re also on Daily Mail’s side.

The editor-in-chief of The Daily Mail resigned the day after the ruling came down.
