On Friday, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares dismissed 30 employees, including 17 lawyers, according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Miyares was sworn into the role of Virginia Attorney General on January 15 with Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, “during the campaign, it was made obvious that now Attorney General-elect Miyares and Attorney General Herring have very different ideas for the office,” Miyares spokeswoman Victoria LaCivita said. In the same way that every new attorney general has done in the past, we are overhauling the office.”

In a statement to 13NewsNow, former AG Herring spokesperson Charlotte Gomer said of the fired employees, “These are dedicated and professional public servants who do important work, such as investigating wrongful convictions, protecting Virginians’ civil rights, assisting in the administration of free and fair elections, and preventing human trafficking and opioid abuse.” “Their departure will be a substantial loss to the Office of the Attorney General’s ability to carry out its duty.”
Miyares declared on Twitter that his office intends to examine problems involving the Virginia Parole Board and the Loudoun County schools, adding that some of these investigations have already begun.
