Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) stated on Twitter on Monday that he had cancelled his DirecTV membership because the satellite television provider had dropped the far-right One America News Network.
“[email protected] is canceling @OANN, therefore I immediately cancelled my home Direct TV,” Paul tweeted on Monday. “Why would we pay money to those who hate us?”

On Friday, DirecTV revealed that it will be discontinuing OANN. In a statement to Bloomberg, the business said, “We told Herring Networks that, after a regular internal assessment, we do not intend to sign into a new contract when our present deal ends.”
DirecTV is the major distributor of OANN’s services in the United States. Over the last several years, the OANN network has been a source of controversy, with the network being accused of propagating false material on former President Donald Trump’s claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, as well as the Covid-19 epidemic.
“OANN’s support for the ‘Big Lie’ that the 2020 election was stolen, as well as the fact that it’s routinely providing attention to conspiracy theories and disinformation on COVID-19, transforms it from a participant in the marketplace of ideas into a purveyor of poisonous falsehoods,” according to Bloomberg.
